Dental Implants

Dental Implants

Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth. Dental implants are a great option because:

  • They improve your ability to chew food comfortably.
  • Implants reduce the strain on healthy teeth.
  • Will help you retain the contour of your face, by preserving your jawbone.
  • Dental implants allow you to smile with confidence.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are generally made of titanium posts that bond to the bone in your jaw. The post creates a foundation upon which to overlay a crown that resembles both the color and shape of your original tooth. Dental implants come in several varieties:

  • dental implantsA single crown – one tooth
  • A bridge – several teeth
  • A denture – complete upper or lower jaw
  • All-on-4 – all teeth, both upper and lower jaw

If the bone in your jaw doesn’t provide enough material to bond with the titanium post then you may be a candidate for bone grafting before the implant procedure. To learn more about bone grafting please visit our bone grafting page.

After an infected or decayed tooth is removed Dr. Calat can place a temporary tooth while your crown or denture is prepared. A newer procedure named All-on-4 allows your oral surgeon to perform the complete procedure in fewer visits without the need for a temporary tooth.
